In a significant move to bolster bilateral relations, Côte d’Ivoire and Angola signed 14 agreements on Thursday, aiming to enhance cooperation across various sectors. The signing ceremony took place in Abidjan during the official visit of Angolan President Joao Lourenço to Côte d’Ivoire.
The comprehensive agreements span diverse fields including agriculture, mining and hydrocarbons, sports, water resources management, health, culture, and industry. This development underscores the mutual interest and commitment of both nations to collaborate and leverage each other’s strengths.
President Lourenço, speaking at a joint press conference with Ivorian President Alassane Ouattara, emphasised the importance of these agreements. “We want to learn from the experience of each other and develop our economies in the interest of our people,” he stated, highlighting the potential benefits of this enhanced cooperation for both countries.
President Ouattara welcomed the renewed vigour in bilateral relations, noting the significance of the inaugural session of the joint Ivorian-Angolan cooperation commission held in April, along with the recent economic forum involving business leaders from both nations. “This gives a strong signal for the connection between the Ivorian and Angolan business communities, which will contribute to further increasing trade and investments between the two countries,” he said.
The signing of these agreements marks a pivotal step in strengthening the economic and diplomatic ties between Côte d’Ivoire and Angola, setting the stage for increased collaboration and development in the coming years.
