Its 12 midday in Zimbabwe and all the streets in the capita city, Harare central business district are empty, a clear indication that the much pubilicised July 31 demonstration has so far flopped.
All major roads leading into Harare are characterized by heavy presence of security personnel, who are manning strict roadblocks.
Few motorists who are intending to get into town are subjected to strict vetting where exemption letters stating that you are an essential service provider are a requirement for one to pass through a roadblock manned by Zimbabwe Republic Police and the Zimbabwe National Army.
Since the beginning of July, some individuals and opposition parties in Zimbabwe have been inciting citizens to demonstrate against allegations of corruption in Government.
At first, those behind the flopped demonstrations were pushing for people to demonstrate against corruption, but as their calls gathered pace, the tone changed to #ZANUPFMUSTGO and #EDMustGo mantra.
Recently, the Government of Zimbabwe warned that the Demonstrations were not about corruption but about re!moving the legitimately elected leadership from power.
In addition, the Government of Zimbabwe said anyone participating in today’s demo will be arrested and called on all Zimbabweans not to participate in the illegal demonstration
