Uganda, DR Congo commission road infrastructure development project

KAMPALA, (The Southern African Times) – Ugandan president Yoweri Museveni and his counterpart from the Democratic Republic of Congo Felix Tshisekedi on Wednesday commissioned a road infrastructure development project between both nations.

Museveni and Tshisekedi said the project will cause a “tremendous” change in the socio-economic transformation of the lives of the citizens of both countries.

The ground-breaking ceremony comes in the wake of the signing of major infrastructure and security agreements between the two countries last month.

A statement from the Ugandan government said the two heads of state had directed the contractor to “execute the construction works in a timely manner.”

The two heads of state were also expected to officially launch Mpondwe Bridge in Kasese District which links Uganda to the DR Congo.

Museveni has defended Uganda’s funding of infrastructure development in DR Congo, arguing that it was geared towards improving trade between the two countries.
