Biden to Meet Kenya’s President as War Roils Nearby Ethiopia

U.S. President Joe Biden will meet visiting Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta at the White House on Thursday for bilateral talks.

Kenyatta will become the first African president to visit Washington since Biden took office in January 2021.

“The leaders will discuss the strong U.S.-Kenyan bilateral relationship and the need to bring transparency and accountability to domestic and international financial systems,” a statement by the White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki said.

“They will also discuss efforts to defend democracy and human rights, advance peace and security, accelerate economic growth, and tackle climate change.”

The two leaders held a telephone conversation in February, during which President Biden expressed his administration’s commitment to the U.S. partnership with Africa based on principles of mutual respect and equality.
