Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba is set to visit Malawi, Zambia, and Mauritius from 4 to 8 August in a bid to garner support for Ukraine’s stance in its ongoing conflict with Russia. This marks Kuleba’s fourth diplomatic mission to Africa in the past two years.
The Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the visit will focus on strengthening bilateral relations and discussing African nations’ involvement in global efforts to restore peace in Ukraine and the broader international community. Kuleba will also address the potential for African countries to participate in Ukraine’s reconstruction and the continued supply of Ukrainian grain to the region.
Despite some African countries participating in a Ukraine-focused conference in Switzerland in June, many have remained hesitant to align with Western initiatives to isolate Russia, a key supplier of energy and commodities.
Kuleba’s trip reflects Ukraine’s ongoing efforts to expand its diplomatic outreach and seek support from diverse international actors amid its prolonged conflict with Russia.
