Tanzania Marks a Milestone with First Honey Export to China

Tanzania has successfully dispatched its inaugural shipment of honey to China, symbolising a pivotal moment in the country’s trade relations and agricultural export ambitions. The consignment, comprising 10 metric tons of premium honey, was procured by East Africa Commercial and Logistics Centre (EACLC) Ltd, a Chinese enterprise with a focus on international trade. The honey was shipped via the EACLC’s parent company, Weihai Huatan Supply Chain Management Company Ltd.

The consignment departed Dar es Salaam Port and is set to arrive at Weihai Port in 27 days, introducing Chinese consumers to Tanzania’s natural produce. Dr Lisa Wang Xiangyun, Chairperson of EACLC, lauded the honey’s exceptional quality and noted that this venture underscored the stringent standards upheld by the company. She remarked that the successful export highlights the potential of Tanzania’s honey industry to deliver premium products to international markets while fostering economic growth.

Tanzanian Minister for Industry and Trade Selemani Jafo hailed the shipment as evidence of the country’s capacity to harness its vast forest and savanna resources for beekeeping, thereby unlocking global opportunities. Additionally, Chinese Ambassador to Tanzania Chen Mingjian emphasised that the export reflects the strengthening economic and trade partnership between the two nations.

This achievement follows the debut of Tanzanian honey at the seventh China International Import Expo in Shanghai last month, a strategic event showcasing the nation’s agricultural offerings to the world.
