Sasa MSK turns a personal relationship struggle into, “Sabela”

Soweto born singer Nomusa Maseko, professionally known as Sasa MSK, has drawn on a personal relationship experience for “Sabela”, a new collaboration with S’Villa and production outfit Epic Minds that explores the importance of emotional support when pursuing a dream. Released on 25 September 2026, the single marks the 24 year old singer’s first major record since her discovery in 2025, introducing audiences to a story shaped by the tension between romantic relationships and personal ambition.

At the centre of “Sabela” is a question familiar to many young people navigating love while trying to establish themselves professionally: what happens when the person expected to offer the greatest encouragement becomes a source of doubt instead? For Maseko, the subject comes from experience. The singer says the song was inspired by a period when she expressed her desire to take music seriously but did not receive the support she had hoped for from the person she was dating.

That experience became the foundation for a record about the need for reassurance, understanding and a partner who believes in the future someone is working towards. Rather than framing the pursuit of ambition and the demands of a relationship as mutually exclusive, “Sabela” centres on the possibility of having both. Its message is that love should create room for personal development, not require someone to abandon their aspirations to preserve a relationship.

The theme gives the single a broader relevance beyond Maseko’s own circumstances, particularly for young artists and professionals trying to build careers while navigating the expectations of those closest to them. The collaboration with S’Villa adds another voice to the song’s narrative, while Epic Minds oversees the production. The combination brings together emerging talent and established creative experience around a subject grounded in vulnerability and the need for mutual support.

Epic Minds is led by Eddie K. Hatitye, a music executive, cultural strategist and record producer whose work has included projects involving artists such as Skales, Camidoh and S’Villa. The outfit has continued to develop collaborations across the African music landscape, connecting different artists and creative perspectives. For Sasa MSK, “Sabela” arrives at an important point in her development as an artist. Having been discovered in 2025, she is now beginning to establish her identity through music drawn from personal experiences and emotions.

The decision to build a song around a difficult relationship experience also places her own perspective at the centre of the record. Instead of presenting ambition as a solitary pursuit, “Sabela” considers the role that encouragement and emotional security can play in helping someone move forward. Its central message is straightforward: a relationship should not force a choice between the person someone loves and the future they hope to build. With “Sabela”, Maseko turns that idea into a musical statement about vulnerability, self belief and the importance of having people who recognise what someone is capable of becoming. The single is available on major digital streaming platforms, alongside its official music video.
