Afro Nation Portugal has revealed a huge first wave of artists for 2027, confirming another major international line-up is set to land on Praia da Rocha beach from 9th-11th June 2027.
Returning home to Portimão for three days next summer, the world’s biggest celebration of Afrobeats, amapiano and African music and culture moves to new earlier June dates for 2027, bringing the global Afro Nation community together at the very start of the summer.
One of the defining artists of modern Afrobeats, Davido returns to Afro Nation off the back of his acclaimed new album Oriadé as one of African music’s most recognisable global stars. From Lagos to London and beyond, his catalogue of era-defining stadium-filling hits and huge collaborations has helped take Afrobeats to audiences around the world, making his return to Praia da Rocha another major moment for the festival.
Since making his headline debut at Afro Nation Portugal 2024, Rema has continued his extraordinary global rise, with ‘Calm Down’ cementing its place as one of the biggest African crossover hits of all time and second album ‘HEIS’ earning a GRAMMY nomination for Best Global Music Album. He has since taken his electrifying Afrorave show to some of the world’s biggest stages, while ‘Ozeba’, ‘Baby (Is It A Crime)’ and more have added to an already formidable catalogue. Rema now returns to Praia da Rocha as one of the defining and most electrifying African artists of his generation.
2027 sees the return of an icon in Fally Ipupa, bringing the sounds of Central Africa to the top of the bill, three years after his memorable performance in 2024. A hugely influential figure whose music connects Congolese rumba with contemporary African pop, he stands as the first ever Congolese solo artist to go Platinum and the first Francophone artist headline and sell out the O2 London this year. Fally’s headline appearance reflects the increasingly expansive sound and international reach of Afro Nation and will be in celebration of his remarkable 20 year career in music.
Also confirmed for the LIT Stage is Nigerian star Omah Lay, the artist who defined the introspective R&B fusion sound with hit songs like “soso” and “HOLY GHOST”, alongside UK R&B breakthrough Odeal, Jamaican dancehall stars Shenseea and Valiant, rising Nigerian star Victony, Bamby and Miimii KDS. The party will continue on the final night with the South Gidi commanding the LIT Stage afterparty. This collaborative live project made its live debut at Afro Nation this summer, and brings to life the legendary EP created by DJ Tunez and DJ Maphorisa, and featuring Wizkid and Mavo.
South African sounds once again have their own home on the beach with the return of the Piano People Stage, led by amapiano pioneer Kabza De Small and trailblazing duo TxC, with Dlala Thukzin joining as special guest bringing sought-after Gqom sounds. The first Piano People announcement also features 031Choppa, 2woBunnies, Benzo, Thatohatsi, Uncool MC, W4DE, Xduppy B2B Al Xapo, Young Stunna and Zee Nxumalo, continuing Afro Nation’s commitment to showcasing amapiano from its biggest international names through to the artists pushing the sound forward in South Africa right now.
The Afrotronic Takeover also returns in 2027, bringing another dimension of African electronic music to the festival. Caiiro and Djeff lead the first names, alongside Jamiie, Aniko and JNR SA with more still to come.
The announcement marks the beginning of the next chapter for Afro Nation Portugal following another groundbreaking international gathering in 2026. Moving forward to 9th-11th June places the festival at the beginning of the European summer, while the paradise setting remains unchanged: three days on the golden sands of Praia da Rocha, where music, dance, culture, food, fashion and art is celebrated.
Afro Nation has truly become the definitive global meeting point where the African diaspora comes together to celebrate identity, heritage and the sounds shaping generations around the world. Since first arriving in Portugal in 2019, Afro Nation has grown far beyond a music festival. It has become a global cultural movement that celebrates African excellence, champions Black music in all its forms and provides a home for the worldwide diaspora to reconnect year after year.
