Zimbabwean Afro House artists join forces for Inner Visions

Zimbabwean Afro House artists join forces for Inner Visions

Nearly 16 Zimbabwean DJs, producers and artists are coming together for Inner Visions, a new compilation intended to capture the state of the country’s Afro House scene and introduce its growing electronic music community to audiences beyond Zimbabwe. Initiated and curated by South Africa based Zimbabwean DJ and producer Dr Feel, the project brings together established and emerging names including DJ Stavo, Nitefreak, Dr Chaii, Ryan Synth, MIčI, Reverb, TAPIWA, Simbai, Tashinga, Shona, PA NGU, Afro Wav, Takue SBT, Josh Major, Daphfinee and Taarof Adder.

Scheduled for release in November through South African House music label Mansa Musa, Inner Visions is being positioned as more than a compilation of individual tracks. Its premise is to document a community of Zimbabwean artists working within the same musical space while reflecting the different approaches and experiences shaping the genre in 2026. For Dr Feel, the project begins with looking inward.

“Inner Visions is about looking inward before you look outward. This is Zimbabwean Afro House, told by the people making it right now, for anyone in the world who wants to listen,” he says.

That collective approach is significant for a Zimbabwean electronic music scene whose artists have increasingly established connections with audiences and labels outside the country. Rather than centering the project on a single producer or generation, Inner Visions brings together artists at different stages of their careers, including internationally active producers such as Nitefreak and Dr Chaii alongside emerging musicians developing their own identities within Afro House. The result is intended to offer a broader picture of Zimbabwean electronic music than an individual artist release can provide.

Dr Feel brings considerable international experience to the initiative. He has released more than 200 singles and more than 10 EPs, as well as the albums Made in Africa and Indalo. His work has appeared through labels and platforms including Defected, Sondela, Deep Root Tribe, Nervous and Aluku, while receiving support from artists such as Black Coffee, Keinemusik, Shimza, Themba and Djeff.

His performance history includes appearances at Sondela Summer Party and Badbox & Friends in London, Cé La Vi in Dubai and ADE in Amsterdam, alongside performances in Germany, France, Kenya, Cyprus, Zambia and Johannesburg. But the ambition behind Inner Visions extends beyond his own catalogue. The compilation seeks to turn the existing connections between Zimbabwean DJs and producers into a more visible collective presence. In doing so, it reflects a broader shift in African electronic music, where local scenes are increasingly finding ways to connect their artists, sounds and identities with international audiences.

Tendai Joe, PR and Communications Manager for Inner Visions, sees the collaboration as an opportunity to build greater cohesion within Zimbabwe’s House music community.

“I think this is one of the most intentional and consequential projects that the Zimbabwean Afro House ecosystem has ever undertaken,” Joe says.

The project also reflects a desire to change how Zimbabwean electronic music is presented internationally. Instead of relying solely on individual breakthroughs, Inner Visions frames the country’s Afro House artists as part of an interconnected creative movement.

The November release will therefore serve as both a music project and a snapshot of a scene in transition, bringing together producers with established international profiles and artists still building their audiences. With JBross Media Group leading the communications and media rollout, the project is expected to form part of a wider effort to increase international visibility for Zimbabwean electronic music and create more opportunities for its artists to access audiences and markets beyond the country.

Inner Visions arrives at a moment when Zimbabwe’s musical identity is increasingly being discussed beyond its traditional genres. Its proposition is straightforward: that the country’s Afro House community has enough artists, ideas and musical language to tell its own story collectively.
