Invictus, a leading natural resources company, has announced the successful renewal of its Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and Environmental Management Plan by the Environmental Management Agency (EMA) in Zimbabwe. This renewal grants Invictus the necessary permissions to proceed with its upcoming 2D seismic campaign and drilling of the Mukuyu-2 well.
The comprehensive EIA survey conducted by independent environmental consultants has been recognized as one of the largest assessments ever conducted in the country, solidifying Invictus’ commitment to sustainable resource exploration. The company’s ongoing engagement with local communities and its noteworthy Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program have also garnered significant recognition. With the renewed approval, Invictus is poised to expand its operations and further contribute to the prosperity of both its shareholders and the communities in which it operates.
The Environmental Management Agency (EMA) has granted Invictus a renewed EIA for Special Grant 4571, as well as Exclusive Prospecting Orders 1848 and 1849, for an additional two-year period until May 2025. EMA issued EIA Certificate number 8000117671, allowing Invictus’ subsidiary, Geo Associates (Private) Limited, to operate under the provisions of the Environmental Management Act (Chapter 20:27). The renewal of the Environmental Management Plan marks a significant milestone in Invictus’ permitting requirements, enabling the company to proceed with various field activities, including the seismic acquisition for the CB23 Seismic Survey and the exploration drilling of the Mukuyu-2 well.
The initial EIA assessment conducted in 2019, carried out by independent environmental consultants, the Scientific & Industrial Research & Development Centre, has been recognized as one of the most extensive assessments ever undertaken in Zimbabwe. The assessment encompassed various field surveys and baseline measurements, covering hydrology, ecology, environment, archaeology, hydrogeology, soil surveys, and socioeconomic factors. Furthermore, consultations were held with key project stakeholders, local leaders, relevant government ministries, and government extension offices. These efforts demonstrated Invictus’ commitment to responsible and sustainable exploration practices.
Invictus has consistently maintained open dialogue with the local communities in the Muzarabani and Mbire Districts, as well as the Mashonaland Central Province. The company’s dedicated Community Liaison Officers (CLOs) and on-ground team members have played a crucial role in fostering communication and understanding between Invictus and the local community. During the CB21 seismic campaign and the drilling of Mukuyu-1/ST1, community information sessions were held, with some meetings drawing attendance from up to 1,000 participants. The continuous support expressed by the local communities is a testament to Invictus’ efforts in establishing mutually beneficial relationships.
Invictus’ Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program has been instrumental in delivering tangible benefits to the local communities. The program was developed based on extensive submissions received during the EIA process and ongoing consultations with the community, particularly during the CB21 Seismic Survey and Mukuyu-1/ST-1 drilling campaign. In recognition of its impact, Invictus was honored with the Responsible Investment & Social Impact Award 2022 for Mashonaland Central Province by the CSR Network Zimbabwe.
Under the CSR program, Invictus has undertaken various initiatives to uplift the local communities. These include the upgrading of roads, drilling of water boreholes, installation of solar panels and pumps, and above-ground storage tanks, providing year-round and continuous access to water for clinics, schools, and communities
