Zimbabwe has a new queen. Lyshanda Moyas, a poised 26-year-old representing Gweru, claimed the Miss Universe Zimbabwe 2025 crown at a glittering finale held on Saturday 17 May at the Harare Hippodrome.

The black-tie event was the most anticipated of the year, drawing fans, fashion lovers, and celebrities to the capital. Moyas emerged victorious from a strong group of nine finalists, impressing judges with her confidence, elegance, and eloquence. Onesimo Nkomo was named first runner-up, while Rumbidzai Muzopa took second runner-up in what organisers described as one of the most tightly contested competitions to date.
Originally ten contestants were set to compete, but Charlotte Muziri withdrew before boot camp, citing a scheduling conflict with the World Fashion Exhibition in France.
Despite the reduced lineup, the remaining nine contestants delivered an unforgettable show. Among them were two former national titleholders: Chiedza Mhosva, Miss World Zimbabwe 2017, and Annie Grace Mutambu, Miss Zimbabwe 2015. Their presence added an extra layer of prestige to the pageant and highlighted the calibre of competition Moyas faced.
Also in the running were Samkhele Dhlamini, Charmaine Emmanuel, Brenda Kadewe, Talic Magaiza, and the eventual runners-up Nkomo and Muzopa.
The finale featured not only beauty and fashion, but also a star-studded judging panel and guest list. South African actress and entrepreneur Connie Ferguson was the Guest of Honour and a Guest Judge for the evening. Ferguson, famed for her role as Karabo Moroka in Generations, has since made a name for herself as a film producer and businesswoman. Her presence underscored the pageant’s growing regional appeal.
Ferguson co-founded Ferguson Films and launched Connie Brands, a lifestyle label focused on empowerment and self-care. Through her foundation, she has supported numerous initiatives in business, education, and the arts across Africa. Mrs Minnie Baloyi-Chiwenga, the founder and owner of Style by Minnie, who also happens to be the Zimbabwean Vice President’s wife was also a Chief Judge at the pageant.
Musical performances on the night came from some of the nation’s most popular acts, including Nutty O, DJ Iroq, DJ King Her, and Stavo Sax, setting a vibrant tone for the evening. The winner, Moyas, also drove away with a grand prize: a brand new Mercedes-Benz C-Class.
Miss Universe Zimbabwe continues to position itself as a key event in the African pageant calendar, offering not only glamour but also opportunities for women to advocate for causes they care about. For Lyshanda Moyas, the crown is just the beginning. She will now prepare to represent Zimbabwe on the global stage at the Miss Universe finals later this year.
