Firering Strategic Minerals (FRG.L) has announced a strategic advancement in its Lusaka limestone project, as its subsidiary, Limeco Resources, obtained an additional exploration licence. The new licence is anticipated to expand the project’s mineral resource estimate by a substantial 60 to 70 million tonnes. This development marks a critical step in Firering’s broader objective of achieving an annual production target of 3 million tonnes by 2030.
The company’s latest acquisition underscores its aggressive expansion strategy within Zambia’s burgeoning mining sector. Firering, which has steadily positioned itself as a key player in the production of industrial minerals, particularly quicklime, is keen to capitalise on the growing demand across regional and global markets. The newly secured licence is expected to augment the existing resource base, thereby enhancing the project’s overall economic viability.
Furthermore, Firering disclosed that the commencement of quicklime production from the first kiln is slated for the fourth quarter of 2024. This milestone is pivotal as it will not only contribute to the company’s revenue stream but also fortify its presence in the quicklime market, a sector experiencing heightened demand due to its critical applications in industries such as steelmaking, construction, and environmental management.
The Lusaka limestone project, with its augmented resource base, is anticipated to become a cornerstone in Firering’s portfolio, providing a steady supply of high-quality quicklime. The company’s long-term vision includes expanding its processing capabilities, ensuring a robust supply chain, and meeting stringent market requirements.
With the newly acquired licence, Firering Strategic Minerals is well-positioned to achieve its production ambitions, further cementing its role as a significant player in the industrial minerals sector.
