Global connectivity provider Angola Cables has announced the appointment of its Chief Marketing Officer, Samuel Carvalho, as the Chief Executive Officer of TelCables Europe. Carvalho will continue to retain his position as Angola Cables’ Group CMO, where he oversees the company’s global marketing strategy.
In his expanded role, Carvalho will be responsible for positioning TelCables Europe as a pivotal digital bridge linking Europe with Africa, the Americas and the Middle East. The company seeks to provide what it terms “front door access” to key global markets by leveraging Angola Cables’ growing subsea infrastructure network.
TelCables Europe is set to operate as a neutral accelerator platform, designed to serve European carriers, content providers, and corporate enterprises. Its services will extend across data centre interconnections, low-latency IP transit, and multi-cloud or hybrid infrastructure deployments. These solutions are underpinned by Angola Cables’ subsea cable assets and strategic partnerships, which include the South Atlantic Cable System (SACS), the MONET system, and EllaLink.
Carvalho emphasised that the initiative strengthens Angola Cables’ strategy to enhance intercontinental connectivity across the Atlantic. The approach is designed to provide diversified routing options that improve resilience and reduce reliance on traditional choke points in global data traffic flows. He noted that by integrating subsea networks with cloud-ready infrastructure, the company aims to offer greater security and flexibility to customers across multiple regions.
Angola Cables’ Group CEO, Ângelo Gama, described Carvalho’s appointment as a logical decision, citing his deep knowledge of the European telecommunications sector and his role in shaping Angola Cables’ global strategy. Carvalho, reflecting on his appointment, stated that he was honoured to lead TelCables Europe into its next phase, underscoring both the opportunities and challenges presented by a rapidly evolving global connectivity landscape.
This development highlights a broader narrative of African companies advancing their global presence in the digital economy. By expanding into Europe through TelCables, Angola Cables not only strengthens its international profile but also positions African operators as critical stakeholders in shaping the future of digital interconnectivity across the Global South and North alike.
