LOME, (The Southern African Times) — Togo’s President Faure Gnassingbe on Monday appointed Victoire Sidemeho Dogbe-Tomegah as the first female prime minister in the country, according to a presidential decree.
Dogbe-Tomegah succeeds Prime Minister Selom Komi Klassou who withdrew from office Friday as Gnassingbe won in February the 2020 presidential election for the fourth term.
So far, she has been minister of Grassroots Development, Handicrafts, Youth and Youth Employment since 2008, as well as director of cabinet of the presidency of the Republic since 2009.
In the coming days, Dogbe-Tomegah should disclose a new administration and present her policy statement to the National Assembly.
Before taking up politics, Dogbe-Tomegah served as assistant resident representative of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Togo, Congo-Brazzaville, Burkina Faso and Benin, from 1999 to 2008.
