Ivorian President Alassane Ouattara has announced that he remains undecided about standing in Côte d’Ivoire’s presidential election scheduled for 25 October 2025. Speaking in Abidjan on 9 January 2025, during a New Year’s address to the diplomatic corps, Ouattara stated, “As of today, I have not yet made a decision. But I am in good health and eager to continue serving my country.”

Ouattara, who has been in power since 2010, emphasised his commitment to ensuring that the forthcoming election would be peaceful, democratic, and transparent. He reassured attendees by noting, “My party has at least half a dozen candidates who are in this room,” indicating that the ruling party has multiple potential contenders ready to participate in the electoral process.

Under Ouattara’s leadership, Côte d’Ivoire has experienced significant economic growth and development. The president highlighted governmental efforts to improve citizens’ living conditions, pledging to continue initiatives aimed at making the nation “a haven of peace that brings hope.”

The 2025 presidential election is anticipated to be a pivotal moment for Côte d’Ivoire, as it will determine the country’s political trajectory in the coming years. Ouattara’s indecision adds an element of uncertainty to the political landscape, prompting discussions about potential successors and the future direction of the nation’s leadership.

As the election date approaches, both domestic and international observers will closely monitor developments to assess the stability and fairness of the electoral process. The international community, particularly nations with diplomatic ties to Côte d’Ivoire, will be keenly interested in the country’s commitment to democratic principles and the peaceful transition of power.

In the meantime, President Ouattara’s administration continues to focus on economic reforms and infrastructure projects aimed at sustaining growth and enhancing the quality of life for Ivorian citizens. The government’s dedication to these initiatives reflects its broader goal of fostering a stable and prosperous environment conducive to national development.

The president’s eventual decision regarding his candidacy will undoubtedly influence the political dynamics leading up to the election. Until then, the nation awaits further announcements that will shape the future of Côte d’Ivoire’s governance and its role within the regional and international community.
