Huawei Launches Zimbabwe’s Inaugural Cybersecurity Training Programme for Government Officials

China’s technology behemoth, Huawei, inaugurated its first-ever cybersecurity training programme tailored for Zimbabwean government officials. The programme, which commenced on Monday in Harare, seeks to fortify the nation’s defences against the increasingly sophisticated threats in the cyber realm.

Over the span of four days, a cadre of 100 officials drawn from various government ministries and agencies will be immersed in a comprehensive curriculum curated by Huawei, in collaboration with the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology, Postal and Courier Services. The curriculum encompasses an array of critical topics, including global cybersecurity trends, international security standards, enterprise private protection governance, and best practices in enterprise data security governance.

In an address delivered on behalf of Yang Shengwan, Managing Director of Huawei Zimbabwe, the company underscored its unwavering commitment to bolstering Zimbabwe’s cybersecurity infrastructure. “Huawei takes cybersecurity seriously, and we have made it a top priority in all of our operations and product development. Huawei invests heavily in research and development to ensure our technologies are secure and resilient against evolving cyber threats,” Yang stated, further reinforcing the company’s dedication to Zimbabwe’s digital future.

Yang also highlighted Huawei’s broader mission of empowering local technicians, engineers, and officials through targeted training initiatives, thereby ensuring that Zimbabwe develops a robust cadre of cybersecurity experts capable of safeguarding the nation’s digital assets.

Beaullar Chirume, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology, Postal and Courier Services, lauded Huawei’s pivotal role in Zimbabwe’s digital transformation. “Huawei, thank you very much for coming on board to share with us, to improve our skills, and to make sure that we share knowledge,” Chirume remarked, noting the importance of such partnerships in building a cyber-resilient workforce and enhancing national security.

With a presence spanning over a quarter of a century in Zimbabwe, Huawei has been instrumental in advancing the country’s digital infrastructure. The launch of this cybersecurity training programme marks yet another milestone in the company’s enduring commitment to Zimbabwe’s technological advancement.
