In a recent development, Nelson Chamisa, the 2023 presidential candidate in Zimbabwe, has reportedly reached out to key figures within the Southern African Development Community (SADC). According to sources close to Chamisa, he has penned letters to the SADC Executive Secretary, Elias Magosi, as well as Presidents Hakainde Hichilema of Zambia and João Lourenço of Angola.

In these correspondences, Chamisa is said to have raised concerns over what he perceives as a lack of response to his previous requests for inclusion in Zimbabwe’s government. Allegedly, Chamisa hinted that there were assurances made in October 2023 regarding his potential appointment to a cabinet position. He emphasized the passage of time, indicating that six months had elapsed since the purported promises were made.
The crux of Chamisa’s appeal lies in his assertion of significant popular support. He purportedly conveyed a sense of urgency, underscoring the readiness of many Zimbabweans to rally behind him.
As of now, there has been no public response from the SADC leaders to Chamisa’s entreaties. The situation remains fluid, with observers keenly watching for any developments regarding Chamisa’s bid for government inclusion.
