Zambia is set to host the inaugural International Conference on Land Restoration and Environmental Protection. The conference, organized by the esteemed Global EverGreening Alliance, is slated to take place in the picturesque southern town of Livingstone in March of next year, drawing an estimated 1,500 participants from across the globe.
Douty Chibamba, the indefatigable permanent secretary in the Ministry of Green Economy and Environment, unveiled the ambitious event during a press briefing on Wednesday. Underscoring the paramount importance of land restoration in combating climate change, Chibamba emphasized the urgent need for robust mitigation and adaptation measures on both local and global scales.
“Land restoration is key for our climate change mitigation and adaptation. There is an urgent need for effective mitigation and adaptation measures to make climate change one of the most important existential issues not only in Zambia but also the world at large,” he ardently stated.
The conference is poised to serve as a pivotal platform for the exchange of groundbreaking strides made in land restoration and environmental protection efforts. Chibamba envisions the event as a confluence of collective knowledge, an opportunity for stakeholders to showcase their expertise, and a nexus for forging new, strategic partnerships. The Global EverGreening Alliance’s role in orchestrating large-scale environmental restoration initiatives in developing countries worldwide lends a substantial weight to the event’s significance.
Zambia’s diverse landscapes each play a distinctive role in supporting sustainable development, as Chibamba highlighted. Forging an imperative link between environmental and socioeconomic objectives, he asserted that the country’s developmental aspirations hinge on judicious land use planning, responsible resource management, and unwavering collaboration from all stakeholders.
As an expert journalist with over a decade of experience in the field, I find this event’s convergence of expertise and vision to be both promising and pivotal. With Zambia’s commitment to addressing land degradation head-on and fostering a comprehensive approach to environmental stewardship, the International Conference on Land Restoration and Environmental Protection is poised to cast ripples that extend far beyond its picturesque Livingstone backdrop.
The impending conference not only underscores Zambia’s determination to tackle climate change but also amplifies the role of international collaboration in catalyzing environmental restoration. As the world unites to deliberate and disseminate innovative solutions, it is evident that the legacy of this inaugural conference will endure as a cornerstone in the global fight against land degradation and climate change.
