DAR ES SALAAM, (The Southern African Times) – Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan on Wednesday urged police to beef up the fight against organisation crime, including terrorism, human and drug trafficking.
“There is a tidal wave of cross-border organized crime that needs to be seriously addressed before the situation gets out of control,” Hassan told a working session for senior police officers in the commercial capital, Dar es Salaam.
“Advanced technology is being used in organized crime such as terrorism, human and drug trafficking,” she told the police officers, including regional police commanders.
Hassan urged the police to work closely with international organizations, including the International Criminal Police Organization, commonly known as Interpol, in the fight against organized crime.
Simon Sirro, the east African nation’s police chief, said reported criminal offences in the country fell 12 percent between July 2020 and June 2021, from 56,397 to 49,508.
He attributed the decline in crime to increased efforts by police in collaboration with communities in fighting the vices.
