Swiss President visits Botswana to bilateral relations

Botswana’s President Mokgweetsi Masisi on Tuesday received here his Swiss counterpart Alain Berset, saying the visit has created an opportunity for the two countries to enhance their bilateral relations.

Speaking during a courtesy call to his office in Gaborone, the capital of Botswana, by the Swiss president and his delegation, President Masisi said Botswana and Switzerland share common similarities in respect of areas in the multilateral space, governance, commitment to the rule of law, human rights, peace and prosperity among others.

He said their meeting is an opportunity to explore more areas of cooperation and collaboration, especially in areas of health, agriculture, trade, manufacturing and education.

He also said the signing of the Declaration of Intent on Cooperation in the area of health by the two countries will go a long way in improving the health status in the country.

Alain Berset said he is delighted to be the first Swiss president to visit Botswana and has a feeling that the bilateral relations between the two countries will grow to greater heights.

He said due to similarities in their culture and other areas, it is critical that the two countries work together to forge strong relations, adding that the two countries should explore cooperation to grow their economies through various ways.

On Wednesday, Berset and the Swiss delegation are expected in Mozambique.
