President Ramaphosa Congratulates President Mnangagwa on Re-Election in Zimbabwe

The Republic of South Africa has extended its warm congratulations to The Republic of Zimbabwe for successfully conducting harmonised elections, a pivotal moment that saw the nation elect its President, National Assembly, and Local government representatives on the 23rd and 24th of August, 2023.

Despite facing the challenges of a difficult economic environment compounded by enduring sanctions, the people of Zimbabwe demonstrated their unwavering commitment to the democratic process, read the statement issued by the South African government. Furthetmore, South Africas government acknowledged the resilience and determination displayed by Zimbabweans as they participated in the elections under trying circumstances.

International Observer Missions, including those from the African Union (AU) and the South African Development Community (SEOM), were invited to oversee the electoral proceedings. Their preliminary pronouncements were noted by South Africa, underscoring the importance of transparent and credible elections in upholding democratic values.

Amidst the celebration of the elections, South Africa issued a call for unity among all parties in Zimbabwe. Emphasizing the significance of working collaboratively to maintain peace and foster development, South Africa’s support for Zimbabwe’s journey towards shared prosperity remains steadfast.

The recent elections mark a significant chapter in Zimbabwe’s history, reflecting both its challenges and aspirations. As Zimbabwe sets its sights on the future, it does so with the support and congratulations of its neighboring ally, South Africa, standing as a testament to the power of resilience and unity in the face of adversity.
