IPT Africa, a Mauritian-based business-to-business payments company, has been selected for the Visa Accelerator Programme – Africa 2025, marking the first time a fintech from Mauritius has joined the pan-African initiative. The programme, operated in partnership with global innovation platform Plug and Play, identifies high-growth African startups with the potential to scale transformative solutions in the digital payments sector.
Chosen from a pool of thousands of applications across the continent, IPT Africa joins a cohort of 22 companies for a 12-week accelerator designed to refine business models, enhance technical capabilities, and expand market reach. The programme provides selected firms with access to Visa’s developer network, mentorship tailored to market-specific challenges, and opportunities for strategic investment discussions.
Founded with a focus on simplifying and enabling cross-border payments, IPT Africa delivers infrastructure to facilitate trade and remittances between African markets and beyond. Its inclusion in the accelerator is intended to strengthen its operational capacity and broaden its technological integration within the continent’s financial systems.
Mark O’Sullivan, Chief Executive Officer of IPT Africa, stated that the selection demonstrates the capacity for Mauritian enterprises to compete regionally and internationally in the fintech sector. He noted that participation in the programme would further the company’s mission to connect and streamline payment channels in some of Africa’s most dynamic markets.
Mauritius, while a smaller jurisdiction in terms of population and market size, has sought to position itself as a hub for fintech innovation in the Southern African and wider African region. Government policy initiatives and private sector investment in the sector have contributed to an ecosystem capable of incubating technology companies with a cross-border focus. IPT Africa’s selection is viewed within industry circles as an indicator of the island nation’s growing role in the African digital finance landscape.
By engaging with the Visa Accelerator Programme, IPT Africa aligns itself with other regional innovators aiming to address infrastructure gaps in payments and enhance financial inclusion across Africa. The company’s participation is also expected to foster knowledge transfer and create opportunities for partnerships within and beyond the continent.
