Leicester City’s Nigerian midfielder Wilfried Ndidi is set to miss the rest of the Premier League season due to injury, the East Midlands club’s manager Brendan Rodgers said on Thursday.
Ndidi sustained a knee injury during the Foxes’ second leg clash with Rennes in the UEFA Europa Conference League in mid-March, and has since had surgery.
“Wilfred Ndidi will be out for the season, it’s a shame for us but he’ll get ready for next season,” said Rodgers.
“It’s unfortunate. He’s been a brilliant player for me in my time here. He picked up a nasty injury that has had to have surgery on and he’ll recover now until June.”
The midfielder was a regrettable absence in Nigeria’s FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Ghana. The Super Eagles failed to qualify as their neighbors went through on away goals, as the game ended 1-1 on aggregate.
Leicester are also without Luke Thomas and Jamie Vardy ahead of the resumption of league action this weekend, when they play Manchester United.
They are however boosted by the return of Jonny Evans.
