NAIROBI (The Southern African Times) – The inflation rate eased to 5.8 per cent in November 2021, Kenya National Bureau of Statistics announced on Tuesday.
This was mainly due to an increase in prices of commodities under: food and non-alcoholic beverages (9.92%); transport (8.14%); and housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels (6.24%) between November 2020 and November 2021, as presented in Tables 1 and 2.
The overall CPI increased by 0.45 per cent from 116.674 in October 2021 to 117.203 in November 2021.
The month-to-month Food and Non-Alcoholic Drinks’ Index increased by 0.91 per cent between October 2021 and November 2021. This was mainly attributed to increase in prices of some food items, which outweighed the decrease in prices of others.
The Housing, Water, Electricity, Gas and Other Fuels’ Index, increased by 0.49 per cent between October 2021 and November 2021.
This was mainly attributed to increase in prices of cooking gas (LPG) and house rent for single rooms that went up by 3.88 per cent and 0.53 per cent, respectively.
During the same period, prices of electricity (50 kilowatts) and electricity (200 kilowatts) decreased by 0.39 per cent and 0.29 per cent, respectively.
There was a notable decrease in bus fares of country public service vehicles.
