Huawei South Africa has opened applications for the 2025 edition of its Women in Tech initiative, a three-day intensive training programme aimed at empowering women entrepreneurs and professionals with advanced digital and leadership skills. Now in its fourth year, the initiative is designed to equip participants with the expertise necessary to navigate and capitalise on rapid technological advancements.
The training, scheduled for 27–29 August 2025 in Johannesburg, will be hosted across two venues. The first two days will take place at Huawei’s Johannesburg campus, where participants will engage in interactive sessions exploring the application of emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) and 5G to address real-world business challenges. The final day will be held at Henley Business School Africa, focusing on leadership development, strategic adaptability, and business resilience—skills identified as essential for sustainable growth in volatile markets.
The theme for this year, TechHERpreneur, reflects an emphasis on supporting women at various stages of their entrepreneurial journey, whether establishing a new enterprise or scaling an existing business. According to Huawei, the programme seeks to foster not only technical proficiency but also confidence and adaptability in an evolving digital economy.
A distinctive addition to the 2025 cohort is a business growth masterclass and a live technology demonstration led by Stuff Magazine. This segment will present practical technological solutions for small and medium-sized enterprises, ranging from smartphones and productivity tools to platforms enhancing digital visibility.
The programme will admit 40 women selected on the basis of innovation potential, entrepreneurial drive, and a demonstrated commitment to growth. Vanashree Govender, Senior PR Manager at Huawei South Africa, stated that the initiative aims to “provide women with the tools and confidence to thrive in a changing world,” underscoring its role in enhancing both technical competence and strategic leadership.
Linda Buckley, Pro Dean at Henley Business School Africa, remarked on the measurable outcomes observed from past collaborations with Huawei, highlighting the development of digital fluency, personal mastery, and business confidence among previous participants.
Women interested in joining the 2025 cohort can submit applications via the Huawei South Africa Women in Tech platform. The initiative is positioned as a practical opportunity for African women entrepreneurs to leverage technology for enhanced competitiveness, resilience, and long-term business sustainability.
