Feel the Jazz Everywhere: 2024 Standard Bank Joy of Jazz Honours Mtukudzi

The 2024 Standard Bank Joy of Jazz festival is poised to once again captivate music lovers, promising an extraordinary celebration of jazz from across the globe. Set against the vibrant backdrop of the Sandton International Convention Centre on 27 and 28 September, the festival invites audiences to immerse themselves in two days of musical excellence with the theme Feel the Jazz, Everywhere!

As Africa’s premier jazz festival, this year’s event will bring together a remarkable line-up of international jazz stars, each bringing their unique sound and style to the stage. Featured performers include renowned trumpeter Chris Botti, the dynamic Darren English, celebrated pianist Keiko Matsui, and the soulful singer Fatoumata Diawara. Fans can also look forward to powerful performances by the likes of Lizz Wright, Tutu Puoane, opera singer Sibongile Mngoma, and bassist Victor Masondo. Additionally, the Chucho Valdes Royal Quartet will grace the stage, alongside trumpet sensation Jessica Pina, the iconic Thandiswa Mazwai, and jazz maestros Mandisi Dyantyis and Matthew Halsall.

One of the key highlights of this year’s festival is the heartfelt tribute to the late, great Oliver Mtukudzi, an African music legend whose contributions to the continent’s soundscape remain unmatched. Titled A Tribute to Oliver Mtukudzi, the performance will feature The Oliver Mtukudzi Tribute Band, accompanied by acclaimed South African artists Yvonne Chaka Chaka, Maduvha Madima, and Zimbabwean musician Mbeu. Together, they will celebrate Mtukudzi’s legacy, performing some of his most beloved songs in honor of his indelible influence on African music.

In addition to the mesmerizing musical performances, festival-goers can expect an atmosphere of elegance and sophistication as they reconnect with the world of jazz. Attendees are reminded that the festival is for adults only, with no admission granted to individuals under the age of 16. To maintain the event’s ambiance, cooler boxes, outside food and beverages, alcohol, weapons, knives, tents, or gazebos will not be allowed on the premises.

This year’s edition of the Standard Bank Joy of Jazz is set to be one of the most memorable in its history, offering an unforgettable experience that celebrates the diversity and vibrancy of jazz from around the world. Whether you are a seasoned jazz enthusiast or a newcomer, the 2024 festival is designed to ignite your passion for the music and immerse you in the rhythms that have shaped generations.

With its world-class line-up and special tribute to an African legend, the 2024 Standard Bank Joy of Jazz invites you to join the celebration and truly Feel the Jazz, Everywhere!

Tickets are available exclusively on TicketMaster, and third party acquired tickets will not be accepted.
