Ethiopian Airlines Group inaugurated a new flight route to Maun, Botswana’s renowned tourist destination, on Monday. Maun, situated approximately 1,200 km northwest of Gaborone, the capital of Botswana, is celebrated for its remarkable flora and fauna. This new route marks the second destination within Botswana to be serviced by Ethiopian Airlines.
Aubrey Lesaso, Assistant Minister in Botswana’s Ministry of Communications, Knowledge and Technology, hailed the new route as a significant economic boost. “This development will substantially enhance trade and tourism, contributing positively to our nation’s economy,” Lesaso stated at the launch ceremony.
Mesfin Tasew, Chief Executive Officer of Ethiopian Airlines Group, reaffirmed the airline’s dedication to its pan-African mission. “We are thrilled to announce that Maun, the tourism capital of Botswana, has joined our extensive network,” Tasew declared, emphasising that this expansion strengthens Ethiopian Airlines’ presence in Botswana.
Tasew highlighted that the new route offers convenient and seamless connectivity for travellers from Ethiopia and across Africa to Maun, the gateway to the Okavango Delta. The Delta is a vast, watery oasis teeming with wildlife, making it a premier tourist attraction.
Ethiopian Airlines’ new Maun route underscores the airline’s commitment to fostering connections across the African continent and beyond, promoting economic growth and tourism development.
