WINDHOEK, (The Southern African Times) – Namibia’s national oil storage facility, jointly built by China and Namibia, received its first diesel consignment on Monday, state-owned oil company National Petroleum Corporation (NAMCOR) confirmed with SAT Tuesday.
In total, 35,000 metric tons of diesel were being offloaded at the new oil storage facility built at the coastal town of Walvis Bay, said NAMCOR managing director Immanuel Mulunga.
NAMCOR was authorized by the Namibian government to manage and operate the state-of-the-art national oil storage facility, which was constructed by a joint venture between China Harbour Engineering Company, the Roads Contractor Company and Babyface Civils.
This oil storage facility consists of a tanker jetty which can accommodate vessels with up to 60,000 deadweight tons. It also has a capacity of 75 million liters of fuel, and four dedicated pipelines for diesel, unleaded petrol, jet fuel and heavy fuel oil, covering a total distance of 6.43 km from the jetty to the tank farm.
