Chidimma Adetshina, the former Miss South Africa hopeful, has recently arrived in Nigeria, marking a significant personal milestone as she returns to her paternal roots. Adetshina, who has been garnering attention for her participation in Miss Universe Nigeria, shared her momentous arrival via Instagram, posting an image of herself in a vehicle, holding a bouquet of pink roses and balloons, with the caption “Hello Nigeria”.
The 23-year-old beauty queen has been making waves in the pageant circuit, leading the voting polls for Miss Universe Nigeria with a notable 13,284 votes. Representing Taraba State, named after the Taraba River, Adetshina’s campaign appears to be flourishing as she strives for the crown.
However, her return to Nigeria coincides with ongoing scrutiny from South African authorities. Recent updates from the South African Department of Home Affairs reveal that a preliminary investigation has uncovered prima facie evidence suggesting her mother may have engaged in identity fraud in 2001. The Department has informed Parliament that it is collaborating with the Directorate of Priority Crimes Investigation, commonly known as the Hawks, to address this issue. The investigation has identified three officials responsible for the registration of Adetshina’s birth, one of whom is now deceased. The probe remains active.
Amidst this controversy, Adetshina’s arrival in Nigeria was marked by a video in which she expressed her joy at reconnecting with her heritage. Dressed in a chic, effortlessly stylish outfit, she reflected on her return after a 20-year absence, having last visited Nigeria when she was only three years old. “I’m just really excited that I’m in my father’s land and I want to experience more about it,” Adetshina shared. She added, “It’s been 20 years since I’ve been here, so I just want to know more about the culture and where I really come from.”
The comment section of Adetshina’s Instagram post is replete with supportive messages from followers welcoming her back to Nigeria. Nonetheless, some commentators have raised questions regarding the logistics of her travel amidst the ongoing investigation into her South African passport.
Despite the scrutiny, it is understood that Adetshina’s documents remain valid and no formal outcome has yet been reached by the South African authorities. As the investigation continues, the beauty queen’s focus appears to remain firmly on her quest for the Miss Universe Nigeria title and her renewed connection with her Nigerian heritage.
