Biskop! Is a short Film Competition, which returns in 2026 under the theme, “The Best of Zimbabwean Short Film.”
Both amateurs and professional content creators have had a surge is local uptake of content and a rising demand for more.
The annual competition, part of the European Film Festival Zimbabwe, seeks to showcase the country’s filmmaking talent while highlighting the diversity of stories and creative approaches shaping Zimbabwe’s film industry.
This year’s competition will recognise outstanding work in six categories: Best Narrative, Best Documentary, Best Sound Editing, Best Cinematography, Best Actor/Actress and Best Diaspora Narrative.
The categories acknowledge both storytelling and the technical and performance disciplines that contribute to successful short films.
The competition is open to filmmakers of Zimbabwean heritage living or working in Zimbabwe, Europe or other African countries. Eligible films must have been completed from May 2025 onwards and must run for between two and 25 minutes.
Entries close on the 12th of October.
Organisers have also introduced disclosure requirements for participants with family members involved in organising or judging the competition, with related jury members excluded from adjudicating affected categories.
The European Film Festival Zimbabwe, launched by the European Union in 2016, has expanded from showcasing European cinema to supporting cultural exchange and Zimbabwe’s local film industry through screenings, workshops, masterclasses and professional development opportunities.
