Algeria has strongly condemned the latest Israeli airstrikes on the Gaza Strip, describing them as a blatant violation of the existing ceasefire and a serious affront to international law and humanitarian principles. In a statement issued by the Algerian Foreign Ministry, the government urged the international community to take decisive action to hold Israel accountable and to ensure the protection of Palestinian civilians.
According to reports, the Israeli airstrikes have resulted in over 400 casualties, further aggravating the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and destabilising the fragile ceasefire that had been in place since 19 January. The intensification of hostilities has drawn widespread condemnation from several international actors, with Algeria reiterating its steadfast support for the Palestinian cause.
The Algerian government reaffirmed its commitment to Palestinian self-determination, underscoring the necessity of an independent and sovereign Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital. This position aligns with long-standing Arab and international resolutions that advocate for a two-state solution as the pathway to lasting peace in the region.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has indicated that military operations in Gaza will continue despite international calls for de-escalation. He stated that negotiations surrounding the ceasefire will proceed under conditions of continued military action, raising concerns about the prospects for diplomatic resolution.
The latest escalation underscores the fragility of ceasefire agreements in the region and the urgent need for a comprehensive peace framework that ensures long-term stability and security for all parties involved.
