The countdown is almost over as thousands of music lovers from around the world prepare to descend on Portugal’s Algarve coast for the sixth edition of Afro Nation Portugal, with organisers promising one of the festival’s biggest and most ambitious events to date.
Taking place from 3 to 5 July at Praia da Rocha Beach in Portimão, the festival has grown into the world’s largest celebration of African music and culture, bringing together fans from Africa, Europe, the Caribbean, the Americas and beyond for three days of music, fashion, food and cultural exchange.
This year’s line up is among the strongest in the festival’s history, headlined by Burna Boy, Wizkid, Asake, Tyla, Gunna, Kehlani, Ludmilla, Olamide and Mariah the Scientist, who will perform on the festival’s flagship Lit Stage.
The popular Piano People stage will once again shine a spotlight on the global rise of amapiano, featuring performances from Uncle Waffles, Kelvin Momo, Focalistic, Madumane, Daliwonga, Mellow & Sleazy and Nkosazana Daughter, alongside several other artists shaping the genre’s continued international expansion.
Beyond the music, organisers have curated a destination festival experience that extends across the Algarve, with beach takeovers, hotel activations, pool parties, boat cruises, artist meet and greets and live DJ performances scheduled throughout the weekend.
Festivalgoers will also be able to experience the return of the YAM Food Court, which will showcase African, Caribbean and diaspora inspired cuisine, while exclusive Afrotronic beach events at NoSoloÁgua Beach Club will be reserved for Golden and VIP ticket holders.
The festival’s entertainment programme will feature renowned hosts and DJs including Shopsydoo, Willz Wida Vibez, W1zzy, Teddy Goodfella, Xavier, P Montana, Spaceship Billy, OV, Flygerian and Shiiva across the Lit, Piano People and Afrotronic stages.
Since its debut in 2019, Afro Nation Portugal has become far more than a music festival. It has played a pivotal role in elevating African music on the global stage while creating a cultural space where members of the African diaspora and international audiences gather to celebrate identity, creativity and community.
As anticipation reaches its peak, all roads now lead to Praia da Rocha Beach, where Afrobeats, amapiano, Afro house, dancehall, hip hop, fashion and food will once again converge for what promises to be another landmark edition of Afro Nation Portugal.
