While Megan Thee Stallion led the night with 12 nominations, she shockingly walked away empty-handed, as Lamar swept every category he was nominated in.
Lamar’s standout victory included Hip-Hop Artist of the Year, beating heavyweights like Drake, Nicki Minaj, and Megan Thee Stallion. His track “Not Like Us” also earned him wins in multiple categories, including Song of the Year, Best Hip-Hop Video, and Impact Track. Additionally, Lamar claimed Lyricist of the Year and delivered the Best Featured Verse on “Like That,” a collaboration with Metro Boomin and Future.
While Lamar’s triumphs captured most of the spotlight, other stars had their moments as well. Nicki Minaj’s long-awaited album Pink Friday 2 won Hip-Hop Album of the Year, defeating competition from Drake, Megan Thee Stallion, and 21 Savage. Rising star Sexyy Red took home the award for Best Breakthrough Hip-Hop Artist, cementing her place in the industry after a year of viral hits.
In a night celebrating the diversity and creativity of hip-hop, 50 Cent was crowned Hustler of the Year, while UK rapper Ghetts secured the Best International Flow award, beating contenders from South Africa, Brazil, France, and Nigeria.
Other notable winners included Missy Elliott, who was honored as Best Live Performer, and The Alchemist, who snagged both Producer of the Year and DJ of the Year. The Best Duo or Group award went to Future & Metro Boomin for their collaborative work.
