Global Land Rover Festival in Tanzania Draws Over 1,000 Vehicles in Bid to Break Guinness World Record

Arusha, the vibrant city in northern Tanzania, hosted the inaugural Global Land Rover Festival over the weekend, attracting an impressive assembly of more than 1,000 Land Rovers from across the globe. Organised by the office of the Arusha regional commissioner, the event sought to break the Guinness World Record for the longest Land Rover parade, currently held by Germany with 632 vehicles.

The festival, which began on Saturday and will culminate on Monday, showcased a 12-kilometre stretch of Land Rovers, a spectacle that organisers hope will surpass the German record set in 2018. Participants exhibited a wide array of Land Rover models, including the iconic 108, 109, and 110 Defenders, as well as Range Rovers and Freelanders, offering a rare sight for enthusiasts and collectors alike.

In a bid to bolster Tanzania’s tourism profile in the northern corridor, the festival featured a host of activities. A convoy of Land Rovers journeyed through the scenic Arusha National Park on Sunday, which lies at the base of Mount Meru—one of Africa’s premier trekking destinations. Known for its striking views from the Meru Crater, the park provided a fitting backdrop to the adventure, blending automotive culture with natural splendour.

Beyond the Guinness World Record attempt, the three-day event incorporated safari experiences, automotive exhibitions, and family-friendly entertainment. The Arusha regional commissioner’s office described the festival as a celebration not only of Land Rovers but also of the region’s tourism potential. Tanzania’s northern corridor, home to iconic attractions such as Mount Kilimanjaro and the Serengeti, stands to benefit from this unique blend of motoring and travel promotion.

The festival’s conclusion on Monday will see the parade return to the Gereza grounds in Arusha, where officials will submit evidence to Guinness World Records for validation. Whether or not the record is broken, the event has already etched itself into the annals of Land Rover history, with participants from around the world uniting in a celebration of automotive heritage and adventure.
