In a measured yet resolute response to Julius Malema’s insinuations, Floyd Shivambu, the former vice president of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), has addressed recent claims of betrayal following his departure from the party. Malema, speaking to the Gauteng EFF provincial ground forces forum at Orlando Community Hall in Soweto, suggested that those leaving the EFF are inherently disloyal to its cause.
Shivambu, who announced last week that he would not be renewing his EFF membership, countered these assertions during a media briefing with the uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party in Johannesburg on Thursday. In his address, Shivambu unequivocally rejected the notion of betrayal, emphasising his dedication to the revolutionary movement.
“I will never betray the revolution. We are not in the business of attempting to appease one another’s egos. Our focus remains on constructing a revolutionary movement dedicated to the liberation of the black majority,” Shivambu stated. His remarks were aimed at reaffirming his commitment to the ideals of transformation and social justice, which he believes are central to his new political home.
Shivambu’s move to the MKP has been framed as a strategic decision aligned with his vision for South Africa. He described the MKP as a unique platform that promises to be effective in addressing the needs of the populace. “It is not merely aspirational to propose grand ideas; it is about mobilising the most capable individuals to effect tangible change,” Shivambu asserted.
During the briefing, the MKP unveiled its high command structure, which includes eight leaders entrusted with the highest levels of decision-making within the party. This organisational framework is intended to bolster the party’s operational efficacy and strategic coherence.
Shivambu’s commitment to the MKP reflects a broader ambition to unite citizens and drive substantive progress. His focus on assembling a skilled team underscores his intent to leverage the party’s capabilities in service of South Africa’s socio-political development.
As the political landscape evolves, Shivambu’s departure from the EFF and his subsequent alignment with the MKP marks a significant shift in South African politics, highlighting the ongoing realignment among prominent political figures and their respective movements.
