Cold Fronts to Bring Snow and Sub-Zero Temperatures to South Africa

Stormy Weather Ahead Caution Sign With Storm Cloud Background

The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued a warning that a series of cold fronts are expected to sweep across the country in the coming days, bringing snow and sub-zero temperatures to several provinces.

In a statement released on Friday, the SAWS indicated that the first of these weather systems, an intense cold front, is expected to hit the western and central parts of South Africa from Sunday, and extend to the eastern regions by Monday.

“This system is anticipated to bring widespread and disruptive snowfall over the southern and western high ground, alongside damaging winds and very cold conditions across a significant portion of the country,” the SAWS stated.

Particularly severe conditions are forecast for the Free State Province, where temperatures could plummet to between minus two and minus six degrees Celsius, according to SAWS forecaster Celeste Fourie.

Additionally, heavy rainfall is predicted for the western parts of the Western Cape Province, with potential flooding a significant concern. The SAWS has urged the public, especially small stock farmers, to take necessary precautions to ensure the safety and wellbeing of their animals.

The forthcoming weather conditions highlight the need for preparedness and vigilance as South Africa braces for the severe impacts of these cold fronts.
