Namibia’s Vice President, Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, has called for increased investment in African connectivity to facilitate intra-Africa tourism. Speaking at the inaugural Africa Hospitality Investment Forum held in Windhoek, the country’s capital, she highlighted the sector’s potential for inclusive growth and environmental sustainability.
“Investing in improved air connectivity within Africa is crucial for unlocking the continent’s tourism potential and driving economic growth,” Nandi-Ndaitwah stated. She underscored tourism as a significant economic driver that can substantially contribute to the gross domestic product (GDP) and employment in Namibia and across the continent.
The Vice President pointed out the resilience and growth of Namibia’s tourism sector, which currently contributes approximately 7 percent to the country’s nominal GDP. She praised initiatives that promote sustainable tourism practices and economic inclusivity, urging stakeholders to prioritise green investments and community-driven tourism projects.
Nandi-Ndaitwah also invited prospective investors to explore opportunities within Namibia, assuring them of a conducive business environment and robust government support. “The government of Namibia is committed to creating a favourable investment climate, characterised by stability, safety, and support for investors seeking to contribute to our hospitality sector,” she affirmed.
The Africa Hospitality Investment Forum, attended by industry leaders and government officials, aims to foster collaboration and investment in Africa’s hospitality sector. The forum serves as a platform for stakeholders to discuss strategies for enhancing connectivity and sustainable development in tourism across the continent.
