Chinese technology company Huawei has launched its proprietary solution, Power S, in Kenya. The contingency energy packs are aimed at reducing electricity costs by at least 10% for both households and industrial clients.
Wang Bao, the director of Huawei Kenya Digital Power, said that Power S is designed to address the current high electricity costs amid rising energy demand and an unstable grid electricity supply. He added that the solution is expected to revolutionize electricity usage in production settings.
The Power S solution uses Huawei’s SmartLi technology, which has the capacity to store between 10 kilowatts and 100 kilowatts. The former can power a home for up to three hours, while the latter can provide electricity to up to 50 homes simultaneously.
The need for more computing and artificial intelligence power is driving digitalisation across organizations, resulting in a rise in demand for data centres, according to Wang. He said that the Power S is driven by Huawei’s silicon carbide semiconductors.
Huawei’s investment in the Power S solution is anchored on the realisation that, as the future unfolds, there will be an immense focus by manufacturers on low carbon footprints, sustainability, efficiency, environmental friendliness, and speed, Wang said.
The Power S solution is expected to benefit Kenya’s manufacturing industry, which is growing at a significant rate, according to experts. The country has recently made significant strides in manufacturing, especially in textiles, leather, and food processing.
Kenya’s government is also working towards increasing electricity supply to meet the growing demand in the country. The Power S solution is expected to complement the government’s efforts towards achieving this goal.
Huawei’s Power S solution is poised to make a significant impact in Kenya’s energy sector by reducing electricity costs and providing reliable electricity supply to households and industrial clients. As the country’s manufacturing industry grows, the solution is expected to play a crucial role in enhancing sustainability, efficiency, and environmental friendliness.
