NAIROBI, (The Southern African Times) – The African Wildlife Foundation (AWF) said Thursday it will enhance its partnership with China in order to boost conservation efforts in Africa.
Kaddu Sebunya, CEO of Africa Wildlife Foundation told Xinhua that there are many global discussions on conservation where African concerns are not adequately addressed to the detriment of the continent.
“Our wish as African conservationists is that through partnerships with China, the world can pay attention to the continent’s voice on wildlife needs,” Sebunya said.
The AWF official said that it is also keen to attract Chinese funding in order to boost its work on land and habitat protection as well as community empowerment.
Sebunya added that it is also considering opening an office in China as part of efforts to boost collaboration with the Asian nation.
He said that the organization has a great relationship with Chinese forestry authorities.
He noted that the Chinese government is currently supporting its work in building the capacity of Africa governments in negotiating for favorable international wildlife agreements.
