Open Access Energy (OAE), a software company dedicated to optimising energy transactions, has secured an initial investment of US$750,000 from Factor E Ventures. This investment constitutes the first tranche of a planned US$1.5 million seed round for the company, which is renowned for its innovative solutions designed to address the nation’s persistent energy challenges.
Established in 2021, Open Access Energy has introduced two major platforms, Amptera and Energypro. These platforms are designed to facilitate real-time energy transactions and enhance energy management capabilities for Independent Power Producers (IPPs) and municipalities. The recent funding is set to bolster the company’s technological development, refine its software offerings, and expand its market presence both within South Africa and internationally.
Gerjo Hoffman, CEO of Open Access Energy, remarked on the timing of the investment: “Factor E Ventures’ support arrives at a pivotal moment for both our company and the broader South African energy sector. Our goal is to decentralise energy production and ensure universal access to clean power. This funding will accelerate our innovation and expand our market reach.”
Factor E Ventures’ partner, Tenbite Ermias, expressed enthusiasm about the investment: “Open Access Energy is addressing significant inefficiencies in South Africa’s energy sector with its innovative software solutions. We are pleased to lead this initial investment in their $1.5 million seed round. OAE is strategically positioned to address the country’s energy issues and facilitate the transition to renewable energy sources. Our investment underscores our confidence in their potential to effect substantial change.”
The injection of capital is expected to enable Open Access Energy to scale its operations, develop new features, and solidify its role in the evolving energy landscape of South Africa.
