(SATSports) – The English Premier League have revealed that at least 60 of players from red-listed countries, including Egypt, won’t be allowed to go on international duty.
The Egyptian FA (EFA) had previously revealed that Liverpool had refused to let Salah join the national team camp in the upcoming international break. The reason behind the decision was due to Covid-19 precautions, as Salah will have to be quarantined upon his return.
The EFA promised to try and find a compromise with the Reds in order for their star forward to compete in the World Cup qualifiers. However, it seems that all efforts will be futile as the Premier League decided to not allow player who are due to travel to 26 red-list countries, which includes Egypt, from traveling.
The decision wasn’t only made by the Premier League as all clubs agreed that this was for the greater good of their teams, their players and the tournament.
The Premier League claims to be also worried about the concerned players’ fitness as they would have to miss at least two league games after the international break, with some of them even having continental and cup games.
“Premier League clubs have today reluctantly but unanimously decided not to release players for international matches played in red-list countries next month,” Premier League’s official statement read.
“The clubs’ decision, which is strongly supported by the Premier League, will apply to nearly 60 players from 19 Premier League clubs who are due to travel to 26 red-list countries in the September international window.
This decision means that Egypt will be without Mohamed Salah (Liverpool) and Mohamed Elneny(Arsenal) for their games against Angola and Gabon on September 2nd and 5th respectively.
