MTN has entered into a strategic collaboration with China Telecom and Huawei, signing a memorandum of understanding (MOU) aimed at enhancing the telecommunications giant’s technological offerings in South Africa. The partnership seeks to strengthen MTN’s network capabilities, with a particular focus on information and communications technology (ICT), 5G business-to-business (B2B) solutions, cloud computing, the Internet of Things (IoT), and artificial intelligence (AI) services.
Tumi Sekhukhune-Chamayou, MTN’s Chief Enterprise Officer, emphasized that the collaboration will unlock new business opportunities and revenue channels. She stated that the partnership is a key step in positioning MTN as a formidable player in South Africa’s telecommunications sector, helping to meet the increasing demand for digital services.
“This partnership will allow us to offer enhanced and cutting-edge technology solutions, enabling us to cater to the diverse needs of our customers across various industries,” Sekhukhune-Chamayou explained.
The collaboration is expected to have significant benefits beyond the telecommunications industry. The partners aim to drive digital transformation within key sectors, including smart mining and industrial applications. By leveraging the combined strengths of MTN, China Telecom, and Huawei, the initiative will contribute to the development of digital infrastructure across the African continent.
Kai Chen, a representative from China Telecom, highlighted that the partnership blends global expertise with local reach, providing the foundation for accelerating the growth of digital services and infrastructure. The agreement is seen as a major step forward in strengthening the region’s technological capabilities.
As part of the deal, MTN will look to expand its 5G B2B services, providing businesses with access to faster, more reliable connectivity. Additionally, the collaboration promises to foster innovation in cloud and IoT services, providing companies with the tools to enhance operational efficiency and adopt new technologies.
The announcement is part of MTN’s ongoing strategy to position itself as a leader in the evolving digital landscape in South Africa and beyond.
