The race for the presidency of the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) has taken a significant turn as Marshall Gore, a seasoned football administrator with extensive experience in the sport, has officially made it onto the final nomination list. The announcement comes ahead of the ZIFA elections, scheduled to take place on the 25th of January 2025, marking a critical juncture for Zimbabwean football.
Gore, who has been a prominent figure in football development both locally and internationally, expressed his gratitude and excitement upon confirmation of his candidacy. In an official statement, he thanked stakeholders and supporters who played a pivotal role in endorsing his nomination.
“I am truly grateful for all the messages of support and prayers—they have been an incredible source of encouragement,” Gore said. “Our vision offers transformative solutions for the development of football in Zimbabwe. Together, we can build a future where our football thrives at every level—from grassroots to professional leagues.”
With the football landscape in Zimbabwe at a crossroads, the ZIFA elections are expected to usher in leadership aimed at rejuvenating the sport. The association has faced challenges in recent years, including governance issues and underwhelming performance on the international stage. Gore’s campaign emphasises collaboration, inclusivity, and a commitment to leveraging resources for the holistic growth of the game.
Renowned football analyst Tinashe Nyamandwe weighed in on Gore’s nomination, highlighting the significance of having a candidate with such a rich background in football administration.
“Marshall Gore’s nomination is a positive step for Zimbabwean football. His experience in grassroots development and international football management brings a fresh perspective that is much needed for the game to progress in the country,” Nyamandwe said. “Zimbabwean football requires leadership that understands the intricacies of the sport at all levels, and Gore’s vision aligns well with what stakeholders have been yearning for—a transparent and development-focused approach.”
Nyamandwe further emphasised the importance of stability and governance in ZIFA’s operations. “This is a crucial moment for the sport in Zimbabwe. If Gore can successfully implement his ideas, we could see a renaissance in local football that will uplift players, fans, and the nation as a whole.”
The candidate is calling for greater stakeholder involvement as the election date approaches. “We are eager to hear your ideas and welcome your involvement. Whether through volunteering, sharing resources, or spreading the message, your support will make a significant difference,” Gore said.
Gore’s track record in football administration, coupled with his grassroots initiatives, positions him as a strong contender in the highly anticipated election. His vision for ZIFA aims to restore the organisation’s credibility while fostering talent development and ensuring that Zimbabwean football reclaims its position on the global stage.
The ZIFA elections will undoubtedly shape the future of the sport in Zimbabwe, with candidates like Gore promising a transformative approach to governance and football development. As the countdown begins, all eyes will be on the final contest in January, with the hope that the new leadership will steer Zimbabwean football toward a brighter and more prosperous future.
