BEUMER Group Backs Kuchera’s Vision for Smart Mining Haulage

Kuchera, the pioneering augmented intelligence and optimization platform for the mining industry, has recently secured a significant investment from BEUMER Group, a renowned German intralogistics company, through its renowned company builder, Beam. This partnership marks Beam’s first foray into the mining vertical, and it aims to transform material hauling in the mining industry by harnessing the power of augmented intelligence and gamification.

Jesper Bang-Olsen, Head of Venture Development for Beam, expressed immense enthusiasm for the collaboration, stating, “We are thrilled to extend our support to the mining vertical for the first time since the launch of Beam. Kuchera’s innovative approach, leveraging augmented intelligence and optimization, has the potential to revolutionize material hauling in the mining industry. We believe in their vision and are excited to be a part of their journey.”

Kuchera’s mission revolves around standardizing driving behavior and monitoring fleet health in real-time, thereby transforming the mining industry. By leveraging augmented intelligence and gamification, Kuchera aims to enhance fleet availability, productivity, safety, and sustainability for off-highway vehicles. The company also offers optimized and cost-effective alternative haulage solutions tailored to each specific operation, resulting in substantial cost savings, increased output, and improved sustainability.

The name “Kuchera,” derived from the Shona language, means to “extract,” which perfectly encapsulates the company’s vision of extracting valuable insights to optimize mining haulage operations. The platform envisions a future where technology empowers people to work smarter, emphasizing the significance of operator behavior in improving truck availability, productivity, safety, sustainability, and cost-effectiveness.

One of Kuchera’s notable partners in this endeavor is Machinery Exchange, a specialist in earthmoving equipment offering equipment sales, rental, spare parts, filtration, and power generation services. Oliver Rapha, the Fleet Track Controller at Machinery Exchange, expressed excitement about utilizing Kuchera’s optimization platform for machines at Unki Mine in Zimbabwe. He anticipates gaining total control over their worksite and accessing detailed overviews of production numbers. Rapha believes that empowering their operators with game-changing insights and driving recommendations will propel their mining operations towards unmatched efficiency and success.

Innocent Guvakuva, Kuchera’s sub-Saharan Africa’s ambassador and Managing Director of Magna 24, praised Kuchera’s innovation, highlighting its focus on operator performance and proficiency management. The solution helps operators become self-leading team members, optimizing safety, fleet management, and productivity, thereby creating empowered operators of the future. Guvakuva expressed Magna 24’s happiness in partnering with Kuchera on this futuristic journey.

Kuchera’s strength lies in its dynamic and experienced founding team, led by three Managing Directors who bring diverse backgrounds and expertise. Kumbirai Chipadza, known as “The Network Builder,” serves as the Director of Sales and Marketing. Voted Ortel African Entrepreneur of the Year in Germany 2022, Chipadza has been recognized for accelerating economic cooperation between Africa and Germany. He maintains an active dialogue between the mining industry and research organizations to address challenges and needs while applying novel software solutions.

Chris Hugger, “The Product Builder,” plays a crucial role as the Director of Product and Technology. With over two decades of experience in product development, including gaming, Hugger has achieved remarkable success and has previously built three successful startups. His expertise is instrumental in driving Kuchera’s product innovation across various sectors.

Mxolisi Sibiya, known as “The Company Builder,” oversees commercial operations at Kuchera. Sibiya’s extensive experience in strategy, pricing, analytics, and commercial operations from various global companies enables him to effectively navigate complex business environments, contributing to Kuchera’s overall success. His ability to fine-tune business strategies, finance, and operations is essential to the company’s growth and development.

Expressing their gratitude, Kumbirai Chipadza stated, “We would like to thank Beam and BEUMER Group for believing in us and giving us this opportunity, but we are even more excited by the market’s response to our solution as mining houses across the globe are engaging us on how we might be able to assist them in optimizing their operations.”

The concept of “Augmented Intelligence” lies at the core of Kuchera’s design pattern—a human-centered partnership model between people and artificial intelligence (AI) working together to enhance cognitive performance, including learning, decision-making, and new experiences. This approach is in line with Gartner’s definition of the term, and Kuchera is leveraging this principle to propel the mining industry into a new era of efficiency and sustainability.

With BEUMER Group’s backing and the support of other key partners like Machinery Exchange and Magna 24, Kuchera’s mission to revolutionize mining haulage operations and empower operators with cutting-edge technology and insights is set to reshape the mining industry as we know it. As the world moves towards a more sustainable and tech-driven future, Kuchera’s innovative approach stands at the forefront of mining industry transformation.
