President Mokgweetsi Masisi, accompanied by First Lady Neo Masisi and an array of distinguished guests, attended a large-scale watch event in Gaborone on Saturday to celebrate Botswana’s men’s 4x400m relay team securing a silver medal at the Paris 2024 Olympics. Organised by the Ministry of Youth, Gender, Sport and Culture, the event attracted Batswana from across the city, who gathered to watch the race on a big screen and demonstrate their support for the national team.
The event served as a focal point for collective national pride, with President Masisi urging all citizens to extend their warmest welcome to the athletes upon their return. He called for the nation to unite in showing appreciation by donning Botswana’s national colours at Sir Seretse Khama International Airport in Gaborone next Tuesday, when the triumphant team is expected to arrive.

The silver medal in the 4x400m relay adds to Botswana’s tally at the Paris 2024 Olympics, marking the nation’s second medal of the Games. Notably, Letsile Tebogo made history by claiming a gold medal in the men’s 200m final on Friday, further elevating Botswana’s status on the global athletics stage.
As the country continues to celebrate these significant achievements, the call from President Masisi underscores a broader sentiment of national unity and pride, reflecting the collective spirit of Botswana’s people.
