In a recent statement, Tarak Cherif, the president of the Confederation of Citizen Enterprises of Tunisia, highlighted the need for Tunisia to expand its exports to the African market. According to official Tunis Afrique Presse, only 2.5 percent of Tunisia’s exports currently go to Africa, indicating a significant untapped potential for trade growth.
Cherif proposed various measures to enhance trade relations with African countries, including mobilizing financing for Tunisian companies to facilitate their access and positioning in the African market. He also emphasised the importance of establishing Tunisian banks in these countries and finding swift solutions to the issue of absent diplomatic representations in several African nations.
To establish a strong foundation for increased trade with Africa, Cherif emphasized the necessity of providing logistical support for exports, particularly in terms of sea and air transport.
The call to diversify Tunisia’s export destinations comes as part of the country’s broader economic strategy to expand its presence in Africa. By tapping into the vast potential offered by African markets, Tunisia aims to boost its trade relations, foster economic growth, and create new opportunities for Tunisian businesses.
With Tunisia’s unique geographical position at the crossroads of Europe and Africa, the country is well-positioned to leverage its strategic advantage and strengthen economic ties with its African counterparts. By embracing these proposed measures and addressing the logistical challenges, Tunisia seeks to unlock new avenues for trade and collaboration with African nations, thereby fueling sustainable economic development and prosperity for all parties involved.
