Zimbabwe’s Chilmund Chemicals Honoured at Africa Investment Leaders Forum

In a significant achievement for Zimbabwe’s burgeoning business sector, Chilmund Chemicals was awarded the “Excellence in Local Manufacturing and Innovation” accolade at the prestigious Africa Investment Leaders Forum on Friday night. This award recognises Chilmund Chemicals’ transformative impact on the water treatment industry and its commitment to local production, innovation, and sustainable development.

Held annually, the Africa Investment Leaders Forum and Awards celebrates the continent’s most impactful business leaders and companies that demonstrate excellence in innovation, sustainability, and economic development. This year, the forum took place in Johannesburg, South Africa, attracting top executives, policymakers, and investors from across Africa.

Chilmund Chemicals, headquartered in Zimbabwe, has undergone a remarkable transformation under the visionary leadership of founder and CEO Lovemore Kamupini. The company, which started as a trading entity, is now a leading manufacturer of aluminium sulphate, a critical component in water treatment. This evolution not only highlights the company’s growth but also underscores its commitment to improving access to clean water and public health in Zimbabwe.

Accepting the award on behalf of the company, Nicholas Bhero, Director of Business Development, expressed his gratitude and dedicated the recognition to his team. “This award is a testament to the hard work, dedication, and innovative spirit of the entire Chilmund Chemicals family. We are proud to contribute to Zimbabwe’s industrial growth and to set a benchmark for excellence in local manufacturing,” he said.

Chilmund Chemicals has made significant strides in ensuring a steady supply of aluminium sulphate for Zimbabwe’s water treatment needs. By establishing a state-of-the-art manufacturing plant in Bindura with an annual capacity of 86,000 tonnes, the company has greatly reduced the country’s reliance on imports. This strategic move not only enhances the stability of water treatment services but also supports Zimbabwe’s economic development by retaining foreign currency within the country.

The company’s commitment to quality is evident in its rigorous testing and adherence to global standards. Furthermore, Chilmund’s collaboration with international partners has facilitated access to cutting-edge technology and expertise, ensuring their products meet the highest standards of efficiency and safety.

Chilmund Chemicals’ operational philosophy extends beyond manufacturing excellence. The company prioritises sustainability, with processes designed to minimise environmental impact. Its adherence to strict safety, health, environment, and quality (SHEQ) protocols ensures that operations are conducted responsibly.

Moreover, Chilmund is deeply invested in the local community. Through various social development programmes, including school fee sponsorships and community donations, the company demonstrates a commitment to improving the lives of those in Bindura and beyond. Their active engagement with water authorities, including offering credit facilities, ensures that essential water treatment solutions remain accessible.

The award from the Africa Investment Leaders Forum comes as Chilmund Chemicals is poised for further growth. With a vision to expand operations across Africa, the company aims to become a key player in the continent’s water treatment sector. Leveraging the Africa Free Trade Agreement, Chilmund is set to increase its regional footprint, offering high-quality, locally produced water treatment chemicals.

“Our goal is to ensure safe water and sanitation for all Africans. By expanding our operations and continuing to innovate, we hope to make a substantial contribution to public health and sustainable development across the continent,” Kamupini added.

Chilmund Chemicals’ recognition at the Africa Investment Leaders Forum marks a significant milestone not only for the company but also for Zimbabwe’s industrial sector. As a beacon of innovation, sustainability, and community engagement, Chilmund sets a high standard for local manufacturing and economic development in Africa. The award is a well-deserved acknowledgement of their contributions and a harbinger of their promising future on the continent.
