Qatar Airways makes inaugural flights to Lusaka, Harare

(The Southern African Times) – The southern Africa region received a boost to its trade, tourism and investment aspirations after Qatar Airways, one of the world’s leading airlines, made its inaugural flights to Zambia and Zimbabwe.

The flights touched down on Friday, first at the Kenneth Kaunda International Airport (KKIA) in Lusaka, followed by the Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport in Harare.

The state-owned Gulf carrier will operate three weekly scheduled flights to both Lusaka and Harare, connecting the two cities to more than 140 destinations across its network.

The two cities become the fifth and sixth destinations in Africa for the airline since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic in December 2019.

The flight to Zambia came just a day after the Zambia Airports Corporation Limited (ZACL) announced that the commissioning of the newly constructed terminal-two at KKIA which will be used for international travel.

The facility is expected to increase traffic to significantly compared to when only terminal one was operational.
