The extension, approved under the Mines and Minerals Act [Chapter 21:05] by Zimbabwe’s Minister of Mines and Mining Development and the President, paves the way for enhanced exploration and development efforts in the region.
The SG 4571 license, held by Geo Associates (Pvt) Ltd, an 80% owned subsidiary of Invictus Energy, is home to the recently discovered Mukuyu gas field. This field is part of a larger 360,000-hectare portfolio that includes multiple basin margin prospects. The renewal ensures exploration activities can continue until December 19, 2027.
With this extension, Invictus Energy plans a robust work program for the next three years. This includes acquiring 3D seismic data, undertaking additional exploration and appraisal drilling, and conducting testing to further evaluate the area’s hydrocarbon potential. The company is also positioned to apply for a production special grant license at any point during this period.
The Cabora Bassa Basin represents one of the last untested frontier rift basins in onshore Africa, making it a highly prospective site for energy exploration.
