FuTopia will return to Zanzibar for its second edition from 8 to 9 August, bringing together music, art, food, wellness, sustainability and community experiences at Fumba Town.
Organised by Busara Promotions, the team behind the internationally acclaimed Sauti za Busara festival, FuTopia was launched in 2025 as a broader celebration of Africa’s creative spirit. Its second edition is expected to build on the success of the inaugural festival with a programme designed to attract music lovers, families, creatives, travellers and culture enthusiasts.
Unlike a traditional music festival, FuTopia combines live performances with a wide range of daytime activities. Visitors will be able to explore the Kwetu Kwenu Community Market, featuring local artisans and designers, while Food Art Street will offer a selection of culinary experiences.
The festival will also feature wellness activities at the Afya Zone, traditional games at the Asili Games area and activities for children and young people at the Wonder Zone. Creative workshops, art installations, sustainability initiatives and interactive spaces will also be spread across the festival grounds.
As the sun sets, the festival will transition into an evening of live music featuring artists from across Africa and beyond. The programme includes South African Gqom pioneer DJ LAG, alongside Tanzanian artists and performers including DJ Joozey, DJ Zoro, Midimu Collective, Baba Kash & The Band, Brainboy & Tarazouk Band, GlobalLocal, Princekim, Rody Joh, Ngoma World, Sauti Marley, Zainooba, Hammer Q and Ruth Mlawa.
The international line-up includes Vania Ice from Burundi, La Negra Mexa y las Cumbiancheras from Mexico, Sidi Blue Moon from Canada and Playroots from Chile.
The festival will bring together a range of sounds, including Afro House, Gqom, Singeli, Afro Pop, traditional African rhythms and live band performances.
A key feature of FuTopia is its accessibility. Daytime activities are free, allowing visitors to experience the markets, exhibitions, family programmes, wellness spaces and community activities without purchasing a concert ticket. Tickets are required for the evening concerts and headline performances.
The festival is also expected to contribute to Zanzibar’s growing reputation as a destination for cultural tourism. Located in Fumba Town, an eco-conscious community with ocean views, FuTopia offers visitors an opportunity to experience the island beyond its beaches and traditional tourist attractions.
Organisers say the festival is designed to encourage collaboration, support local businesses and create opportunities for artists, entrepreneurs, innovators and communities to connect.
With accommodation available across Zanzibar, including hotels, guesthouses, beach resorts and apartments, visitors travelling from outside the island are being encouraged to make arrangements early ahead of the festival weekend.
More artists and programme details are expected to be announced in the coming weeks, as FuTopia prepares to once again bring together music, culture and creativity in one of Zanzibar’s most distinctive festival settings.
